Thinking about adding a company blog to your online marketing strategy? Blogs are great for business in two ways – firstly, they share information about your services, products and company achievements and, secondly, they’re a good way to boost your search engine optimisation (SEO) efforts. Here’s what to think about before you start blogging:

  • Will it be a stand-along blog, with a link to your company website, or integrated with your website? While both approaches have their merits, integrating your blog with your website will mean you can easily update it through your CMS.
  • Who is your target audience? Define whether it’s your customers, suppliers, colleagues or a combination of all three.
  • What are you going to blog about? The content you publish needs to be relevant, appealing and useful to your target audience. A good blog will keep your target audience informed and entertained…and will keep them coming back for more.
  • Who is going to write your blog? To remain relevant and appealing to your target audience (and the search engines), your blog must be maintained. This means you need to post content on a regular and consistent basis, so dedicate someone to this task. It helps if that person has a flair for writing – good, effective blogs are written in an easy and engaging style and are free from grammar and punctuation errors.
