What is a Content Management System

What is a Content Management System?

Simply put, a content management system (CMS) is a computer program which allows you to manage web content.

In the old days, updating your website required technical expertise, specifically knowledge of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) – and if you didn’t have it, you had to hire someone who did to perform website updates for you. This meant two things – web updates took time and they cost you money.

Happily, technology has moved on and improved our lives – content management systems now make it possible for you, the small business owner or company marketing manager, to edit and publish content to your website, quickly and with the very minimum of technical expertise. What’s more, more than one person can upload or edit content to a website using a CMS – even if they’re in remote locations – which allows for increased collaboration between individuals or departments within your company.

Effectively, having a CMS means web updates to your website are cheaper, quicker and happen more often.
